I’m Kylie––the girl behind Sunset + Oak. I’m a California native with a deep love for rolling, green hills and the ocean, who moved to a city notorious for its wind and snow, Chicago. Sunset + Oak offers handmade pieces, colorful and whimsical art, and paper goods made with love––by me!I’m a lover of white tea, seasons, all things peppermint, heated blankets, jotting in notebooks, Jesus, and anything by Monet. I spend most of my days cooking and baking, reading books (yet rarely finishing them!), and making way too many lists.
Sunset refers to the infamous California boulevard that encapsulates the crisp blue skies and palm-tree ensconced beaches, while oak refers to a charming street in downtown Chicago that leads directly to the Lakeshore––Sunset + Oak is what blossoms when California and Chicago meet.
Through arts and crafts, I explore themes of repurposing and redemption. I typically use found materials and various methods of tearing, cutting, pasting, and to create a new image. When various mediums are torn apart, broken, and re-imagined, they transform into something of beauty and meaning. So it is with our lives. Throughout my work are themes that I repeat to myself as a way to remind myself: peace, hope, joy, and love.
